Coming to a coffee shop in the midst of finals week, I was expecting tired, diligent college students with goals in their grasps. Little did I expect a photograph on a lone table in the corner.

It’s a simple picture of an elevated post with its main function to overlook a designated area. I knew an artist that would leave his drawings and doodles in an effort to pay it forward. Maybe the next person would enjoy it and keep it for themselves. Maybe someone else would move it to a different spot. It could very well be thrown away. He explained that most people, especially during finals, are too focused on their work to appreciate the things that make life beautiful and interesting. Leaving art in unexpected places surprises people, hopefully to remind them that life is beautiful.

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” Quotation from Pablo Picasso
